If you’re a long-time reader, let me start off by saying… hi! I’ve missed you. For whatever reason, the last three months have been crazy and I’ve taken the longest (unintended) break from blogging since I started in 2013. Thank you for hanging with me. It’s good to be back.
I promise to post a Life Lately to catch you up, but today I want to talk vintage fashion. I’ve been collecting vintage for about 10 years now and my, my has the game changed. I recently read this article and it left me with many thoughts and one important realization – if you’re eyeing a vintage piece, now is the time to pounce.
Not only is the resale marketing growing at an exponential rate – everyone from Balenciaga to Dôen now has a buy-back program – but the sheer number of vintage sellers is skyrocketing. Prices are increasing and supply is dwindling. Thrift store finds are becoming harder and harder to come by.
Here are my favorite vintage sellers worth their salt.
The Instagram Sellers
I’ve shopped with APOTR for years, and adore their collection of 80s and 90s pieces. They specialize in Karl Lagerfeld (I think they have the largest collection in the world!), blazers, leather pieces and suiting.
If you do any vintage shopping, you probably know Christos. He is the mastermind behind daily Instagram Live sales that he hosts with vintage sellers around the globe. I always tune in, even for 5min, because the treasures abound.
Cherie is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to designer vintage. She educates you in every post and has one of the most insane archives on the planet. She could open a museum. It’s no wonder the stars go to her for red carpet looks.
I scored a gold hardware embellished Gianfranco Ferre leather bomber from Jillian. She has a great eye for statement pieces, including jewelry and home furnishings.
Color, prints and textures oh my! The Joyous Closet brings the drama.
The Etsy Shops
I discovered this shop years ago and they continually stock designer vintage and expertly curated pieces at affordable prices. They are currently running 15% off with code ZEUS2022HOLIDAY.
A great selection of great designers – Jil Sander, Guy Laroche, Courreges, Pierre Cardin, Gaultier, Lacroix.
This shop has a great selection of pieces from the 1920s through the late 90s.
The Brick & Mortar Stores
NY Vintage is pretty much the end-all-say-all of designer vintage. They have Givenchy worn by Audrey Hepburn, were selected as one of four stores in the world to carry Valentino Vintage, and Lenny Kravitz shops there. Get thee to NY Vintage. I scored this Yohji Yamamoto skirt set.
The Frippery is just as delightful as it sounds. Anytime I’m in Palm Springs I make a point to stop here. Specializing in the Rat Pack era of Palm Springs, everything in the store evokes a smile. The owner knows the backstory of every item in her shop and once told me a vintage collector friend of hers who specializes in Pucci would only buy pieces with cigarette burns in them because “then she knew they LIVED.”
