M is for Mugler
Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this insane Mugler dress in Soho during a break between NYFW shows. A diehard fan of the 80s and Mugler’s extreme aesthetic, I nearly fainted. Massive shoulder pads, a nipped waist and a gold geometric belt screamed the decade I will forever hold dear. Of course I snatched it up immediately.
Shooting a dress like this needs an extra special touch. It can veer Dallas and Dynasty, hence the voluminous hair, or transport you back to the Havana during it’s prime. I love all of the emotion it conjures. It’s severely strong and theatrical, so you can bet I felt like conquering the world in it. Classic Mugler. Gets me every time.
Monochrome
Iris Apfel would highly disagree, but I find all black outfits rather intoxicating. This look is downright monastic, in color palette and silhouette, but I love the way it drapes. Caught in the midst of a glorious sunset, it’s an ensemble meant for movement. Thankfully these Pierre Hardy boots ensure a good strut. Aptly named the Marfa, they’re boots for a rouge cowboy. Time for my ride into the sunset.
Obi
When this skirt first came out, I was smitten. Available in three colors and two prints, I initially had my heart set on the blush but went for the cobalt blue instead. It’s obi belt is so eye catching and the length is perfectly highlighted with a front slit. The oversized high neck sweater is a nice ‘undone’ compliment to the smart symmetry of the belt. Paired with a pop of yellow, I love this look for work and play.
Fancy That
I’m not gonna lie. This ensemble makes me feel a bit like I belong in the world of Harry Potter, if Harry worked at Vogue. Like a posh English uniform, this outfit feels put together without sacrificing whimsy. The oversized button down and voluminous culottes find balance with skinny knee high boots a cloak of tailored wool. You can never go wrong with simple staples.
