City Sippin’

September 7, 2016

RM1 RM4 RM3 RM6 RM2 RM5 Last weekend I was in Chicago to visit my sister. I’ve been to the city many times but am always so impressed by it’s architecture, fashion and food scene so I was excited to stop into RM Champagne for a drink. I’m actually not a fan of champagne but was delighted to find a jalapeno infused concoction with a chili rim, perfect for an about-to-storm evening.

The atmosphere was prefect for a chill evening before we stuffed our faces with Italian food. I loved the outdoor area with exposed brick, twinkly lights and blue & white tile. My casual look of leather, denim and sneakers fit in perfectly with the after work crowd. I wear a variation of this look a lot because it truly goes with any occasion and is so comfortable. I’ve linked some options for my go-to tank top, sneakers and leather below.

Hey, Preppy

August 29, 2016

GL6croppedcurves GL2 GL3 GL1 GL5 GL4 After a brief hiatus from posting last week, I’m back to my normal schedule and feeling really energized for what’s to come. In less than two weeks I’m headed back to New York Fashion Week! If you’ve been reading In Spades for a while now, you know that each NYFW season truly is my favorite time of year (although I’m slightly partial to September for the better weather!). It always provides a crazy boost of inspiration, an opportunity to network with new and old friends alike, and focus on upcoming trends and how I can incorporate them into the blog. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for BTS coverage of all the shows!

This week my sister and I are embarking on a fun outing that brings back several memories from our childhood. I’ll be recapping everything on Instagram Stories, but let’s just say this week’s post title is a good hint of the events to come.

Today’s OOTD is a great example of investing in good staples. I purchased these loafers after going through 3 pairs of ballet flats that were still super uncomfortable despite being well past the broken-in point. The moment I slipped them on I knew the investment was well worth it. I’ve worn them every single day since owning them because they truly go with everything – jeans, dresses and work outfits. I paired them with a preppy bowtie button-up and voluminous denim, which you may remember from a past post. As much as I love these jeans, I noticed I wasn’t wearing them much because they were a little too long. I finally took them to a tailor to achieve the cropped look I wanted, and am so glad I did. Just a slight change transformed them from something that was sitting in my closet collecting dust to a wardrobe staple.

What small changes can you make in your wardrobe that will bring old pieces back to life?

Vocabulary’s 7th Birthday

August 17, 2016

VocabBday4
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to celebrate Vocabulary Boutique’s 7th Birthday on Saturday! It was so nice to meet new friends and catch up my fellow bloggers over rosé and French macaroons.

How amazing is this emerald green dress from Vocabulary that I picked out for the party? I love how the plunging neckline perfectly matched my bathing suit – they were made for each other! Paired with a delicate gold lariat and an orchid in my hair, I was in full summer pool party mode.

Cecelia displayed a beautiful table full of jewelry, sunglasses and accessories while Brazilia Skin Care raffled off some great prizes.  Each guest went home with a gift bag full of goodies from Krystel, Laura and I.

This amazing pink watercolor background was created by artist Stefanie Bales.  We had so much fun taking Instagram and Snapchat pictures in front of it!

Thanks again to everyone for coming out!

Transitional Shirtdress

August 15, 2016

CMEO3cropped CMEO1 CMEO5 CMEO2Cropped CMEO4cropped CMEO6curves2 CMEO8
As summer begins to wind down I’m reaching for more transitional pieces that can carry me through fall.  You can never go wrong with a crisp shirtdress and this one from C/MEO Collective is perfect for looking polished, yet also oh-so-comfortable.

If you’re not familiar with the brand, they make incredible separates and dresses that resemble the clean lines of high end Australian designers like Dion Lee and Ellery, at a fraction of the cost.  I had to seriously refrain from going crazy as many of their pieces are on sale and will still look amazing with long coats and boots come September.

I love this dress for work (it’d look so chic with a turtleneck underneath and some ankle boots) and this dress would be perfect for autumn weddings or special occasions with it’s rich berry color.

This dress is your quintessential day-to-play ensemble and it’s flattering wrap closure will look great on all body types.

The key to a good shirtdress is the shoes, and I’ve been swooning over this pair ever since I laid eyes on them.  They resemble the lace-up heels I’m wearing, but with more updated details.

What transitional styles are you loving right now?

C/MEO Collective dress (sold out, similar shirtdress style here) // Mansur Gavriel bag //
Nick Murphy lace-up heels (old, similar here)
